Skyline Soundtrack
Matthew Margeson has some talent, and its apparent from the beginning of the album. Still, I get the feeling he was trying to sound like some of the greats, most particularly Brian Tyler and possibly Steve Jablonsky. If you were listening to this soundtrack and you didn’t know who composed it, guessing either one of those two wouldn’t be so far-fetched. Being a fan of Brian Tyler I welcomed how familiar the music sounds. Its loud, frantic, edgy, and in your face. The somber moments aren’t all that good, and only act as bridges to the better and more zany action material…just like a Brian Tyler soundtrack. I would like to hear what Matthew Margeson can come up with next. However, I think if he hopes to become one of the great film composers, which he very well could be, then he needs to develop his own sense of style and try to stay away from sounding like the son of Brian Tyler. The album flows, for the most part, pretty smoothly, with a nice little rock song at the end that doesn’t fit the vibe of the other material, but will most likely get your foot tapping. Overall it’s a good score album. Not great, but definitely the best part of the movie.
